Son of John Bortulin and Mary Ellen Graham, I was born in Tawas City, Michigan and baptized into God’s family by Pastor James Rockhoff on November 27, 1977, at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Our family moved to Saginaw, Michigan, where I was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church (1992) and graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary (1996). I graduated from Martin Lutheran College (New Ulm, MN) in 2001 and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (Mequon, WI) in 2005. My vicar year (2003-04) was spent at Fount of Life Lutheran Church, a mission church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In 2002, the Lord blessed me with an incredibly patient and supportive wife. Sarah (nee’ Fein) was born and raised in Saginaw. She is a 1998 graduate of Michigan Lutheran Seminary and a 2002 graduate of Martin Luther College with a major in Elementary Education with a focus on Spanish. She served as a Tutor/Spanish Instructor/Volleyball Coach at Luther Prep School in 2002-2003. She currently serves as a Spanish teacher at St. John's-Burlignton and a piano instructor at our school and at St. John's-Wauwotosa.

Sarah and I have been blessed with five daughters. Andrea, Emma, Naomi, Claire, and Maria all attend St. John's Lutheran School. It is humbling to watch our daughters grow—bodily and spiritually. Our family enjoys typical family things—all kinds of sports and outdoor activities and music and trips to see family and friends.

In 2005 I was assigned to serve as pastoral assistant to the Nebraska District President, which led us to St. Paul’s in Plymouth, Nebraska, and from 2010-2014 I served St. Paul’s as lead pastor. Since July 2014, I have been blessed to serve as pastor here at St. John's.  In addition to my service at St. John's, I serve our synod as a member of the Liturgies/Rites Committee for the hymnal project and as a member of  our synod's Board for Ministerial Education

We are blessed and excited to call St. John’s and Mukwonago our home. I’m humbled by the grace that God has shown me—first that He calls me His beloved child, and now that He has Called me and said: “Here is a group of my children for you to love and to serve with the unconditional Gospel of Jesus Christ. To Him all glory, praise, and honor.

My door is open. Stop by, call, or email at any time.

Humbly in Christ,
Pastor John Bortulin

Vicar Mount was born and baptized in Two Rivers, WI and spent most of his childhood in Mukwonago, WI.  After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Army and was on active duty for 5 years.  During that time he was deployed to Bosnia and Kosovo.  After serving in the military, he came home to Wisconsin and lived in the Milwaukee area.  He studied at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where he met his wife Diana (nee Lawrenz).  After receiving his bachelor's degree and studying speech language pathology for some time, Vicar and his family decided to make a big life change and go to Martin Luther College to pursue the pastoral ministry.  Having felt so blessed to have received eternal life through the Word and Sacraments, it seemed only natural to want to connect more people with God's love and grace.

Vicar Mount and Diana have been blessed with four children, Samuel 9, Isabelle 5, Jonah 3, and Isaac 1.

In the fall of 2017, Vicar Mount resumed his full-time studies as a Senior at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Between now and his graduation in the spring of 2018, he will assist our congregation with a limited role in visitation ministry, and youth religion instruction.

Vicar may be contacted via EMAIL

For it is by his grace that we have been saved through faith, and this faith was not from you, but it is the gift of God. ~ Ephesians 2:8
