Pastor John Bortulin
Office: (262) 363-4999
Son of John Bortulin and Mary Ellen Graham, I was born in Tawas City, Michigan and baptized into God’s family by Pastor James Rockhoff on November 27, 1977, at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Saginaw by Pastor Lynn Schroeder, I went onto graduate from Michigan Lutheran Seminary (1996), Martin Lutheran College (New Ulm, MN) in 2001; and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (Mequon, WI) in 2005. My vicar year (2003-04) was spent at Fount of Life Lutheran Church, a mission church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
My wife Sarah (nee’ Fein) was born and raised in Saginaw. She is a 1998 graduate of Michigan Lutheran Seminary and a 2002 graduate of Martin Luther College with a major in Elementary Education with a focus on Spanish. She served as a Dorm Supervisor/Spanish Instructor/Volleyball Coach at Luther Prep School in 2002-2003. She currently serves as a Spanish teacher at St. John's-Burlington and a piano instructor at our school and at St. John's-Wauwatosa.
Sarah and I have been blessed with five daughters. It is humbling to watch our daughters grow—bodily and spiritually. Our family enjoys typical family things—all kinds of sports and outdoor activities and music and time with friends and family.
Upon graduation from our Seminary, I was assigned to serve as pastoral assistant to the Nebraska District President, which led us to St. Paul’s in Plymouth, Nebraska, and from 2010-2014 I served St. Paul’s as lead pastor. Since July 2014, I have been blessed to serve as pastor here at St. John's. In addition to my service in Mukwonago, I serve our church body as a member of the Rites Committee for the new Hymnal Project and as a member of our synod's Board for Ministerial Education and Joint Mission Council.
We are blessed and excited to call St. John’s and Mukwonago our home. The ministry is a privilege and I'm humbled that God would allow me to serve Him and you in this way. To Him be the glory.
My door is open. Stop by, call, or email at any time.
